John Edward Marr - “First world famous man born in Morecambe”
The fact that such an eminent geologist as Professor Marr was born in Morecambe, was brought to the attention of the Local Council by a letter in the “Visitor” Newspaper by Major B. W. Hogarth J.P., when Marr died in 1933.
He pointed out that as far as he knew Professor Marr was the first world famous man born at Morecambe.
The town was so proud of such an eminent scientist, that they placed this plaque outside the house where he was born, on Saturday 23rd June 1934.
The iamge shows the plaque on the outside of John Edward Marr's house.

The memorial was constructed in Westmorland Green Stone quarried in the Lake District which had special association with Professor Marr, as most of his best work was carried out amongst the mountains.
