Part of the Lancashire Lantern network, the Pioneers gives details of people who were famous local people in science, technology and innovation. These pioneers were either born in Lancashire or their endeavours made a significant contribution to the development of the County.

the entrance to his surgery on Bank ParadeHe began his working life in a chemist's shop but came to Burnley in 1879 as assistant in the practice of Dr. Briggs and Dr. Brown. 

He lived at 66/68 Bank Parade and practised medicine, midwifery and some surgery in a community where poor, insanitary housing and overcrowded conditions produced many of the ailments he treated.
