Part of the Lancashire Lantern network, the Pioneers gives details of people who were famous local people in science, technology and innovation. These pioneers were either born in Lancashire or their endeavours made a significant contribution to the development of the County.

Pictstonhill, the farm where James MacKenzie was brought upSir James Mackenzie was born at Pictstonhill Farm in Scone, Perthshire on 12 April 1853 and was educated at Scone village school, Perth Grammar School and Edinburgh University. 

In 1887, he married Frances Bellamy Jackson and they had two daughters, Dorothy born in 1888 and Jean born in 1893.
