Lancashire Lantern: Lancashire Pioneers

Part of the Lancashire Lantern network, the Pioneers gives details of people who were famous local people in science, technology and innovation. These pioneers were either born in Lancashire or their endeavours made a significant contribution to the development of the County.

The Minicar was the first such vehicle to go into production in the UK and soon 15 a week were being built at Sharp's Ribbleton Lane factory. Map of the factory pictured below.

The Bond Minicar three wheelerThe design and manufacturing rights were sold to Sharp's Commercials and they continued to build vehicles under the Bond name. 

Thus began 15 years of continuous production with 26,500 Minicars rolling off the production line. 

By 1963 there were 24 different versions of the 3 basic models available.
