Part of the Lancashire Lantern network, the Pioneers gives details of people who were famous local people in science, technology and innovation. These pioneers were either born in Lancashire or their endeavours made a significant contribution to the development of the County.

Hillside HouseJohn Birley's House on Preston StreetProbably built in the later part of the 18th century, John Birley's house originally had "sideways" steps similar to those at Hillside.

The house was later converted into three self-contained houses with stone from the original steps and rails being used
